AIKIDO Superpowers

Since September 2017 (04.09.2017), I have been leading Aikido training for children between 3-6 years old, who partner together with one of their parents. The number of each group is up to 6 children and 6 parents.

My Aikido Superpowers Programme focuses on expanding knowledge about the characteristics of children’s bodies. I explore the directions they can move in (left, right, forward, backwards) and how their movement relates to the world around them.

Each training session includes group games, pair work, and individual exercises. By participating in these classes, the children improve their concentration and coordination, balance and fine motor skills, and their auditory and visual perception. After completing my Aikido Superpowers Programme, each child is ready to both physically and emotionally transition to school. Aikido principles teach them mutual respect, successful cooperation, resourcefulness, discipline, persistence, and many other useful skills that help them grow up as successful individuals.

The programme has 4 different levels so that the children have a clear sense of growth and accomplishment. I have designed bespoke exams by concentrating on the specific developments in the brain and body of 3-6-year-olds. The programme is designed to prepare preschoolers for the global Aikido degrees and belts of Hombu Dojo when moving up to the elder children's programmes. Each level is related to the mastery of specific skills and “superpowers” – Horse, Wolf, Eagle, Dragon.

Together with our calligraphy teacher, we come up with 4 animals to draw so that the children receive a T-shirt certificate allowing them to wear the superpowers they have acquired. Over the years, this has proven to be an incredibly empowering and motivating moment for both the children and their parents who train and pass the exams together.
